Owl Lamp $46

Ceramic Owl Bank $22

Handmade Owl Pouch $32

Owls are bananas. They can swivel their heads 360 degrees. They regurgitate bits of food they don’t want in handily packaged mouse pellets (they mostly eat mice – and while we can’t condone mice-eating, we will let it lie this once). They represent wisdom and they are real pretty. We love owls.

Kit & Lili's Pink Heart Onesie $30

Kit & Lili Apples $46

Daisy Onesie $32

I often wish baby clothes were made in full-grown-human-size.

I acknowledge I could look like a loon in a full-grown-daisy-onesie. I would wear this one in the privacy of my own home.

Jack.

Jack is a pug. Jack only has one eye and his tongue is permanently poked out. Jack is a hero of our times. We love Jack.

(Sorry about the dark photo – I’m no David Bailey – but I am trying).

Matchbook.

Here at Yolk we are a little technologically challenged but we do try to stay abreast of this new-fangled internet sensation. During one such breastful exploration we came across this lovely new online magazine called MATCHBOOK – it’s lifestyle, fashion etc etc and it’s absolutely grand. The first issue alone is chocker with brilliant articles and gorgeous pictures. Letterpresses? Check! Napoleon’s love letters? Check! Peggy Guggenheim? Check! Princess Margaret? Check!

Their gorgeous and delicious tumblr page also tickled the pickles- please click HERE to go see it – not a hundred per cent sure what a tumblr is – and definitely not sure where the E has disappeared to but we are prepared to overlook this for the delights proffered. All sorts of wonderful links and pictures to things we love. Go look – it’s worth it for sure.

P.S. I think this magazine launched last month so I’m obviously a little behind but better late that never, yes? Yes!

P.P.S. All images above from Matchbook’s tumblr.

Pigs.

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Pigs are wonderful animals. Much maligned. I understand that they can be slightly smelly and as pets I do believe that can be quite destructive  but quite frankly that could also describe many people I know so lay off the pigs.

The names of our favorite breeds read like something out of The Hobbit:

Gloucestershire Old Spots

British Saddlebacks

Dorset Gold Tips

Swedish Landrace

These pigs below hail from Chile. They are made from clay, are not destructive and do not smell. All in all the perfect pig addition to any home.

Condiment Pig $21, Large Pot Pig $68, Extra Large Pot Pig $72

Close up of a Condiment Pig $21 - I would like to pinch this pig's face.

If you prefer wooden to pottery pigs,  feast your peepers on these delightful bookends – s’terribly hard to find a good bookend. Although maybe don’t buy pig related items on Valentine’s Day – it could potentially send the wrong message to your loved one. Maybe buy them for yourself or for your best-friend.

Pig Bookends $110/ set.

We’re Baaaaaaaaaaaack!

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

Yep! Yep! We know – we’ve not been blogging for a couple of months but this was due to extreme sloth-like tendencies but now we are BACK! We will be blogging up a storm! We’re going to be chomping at the blogging-bit! We’re going to grab this blog and run with it! You get the idea. This is a motivational pep-talk to ourselves and to let YOU know we’re here and we will be trying harder.  In our new-and-improved bloggery we will be posting bits and pieces from the store that we love and also things from around the world that have tickled our fancies.

First up are these insanely adorable bud vases and hanging planters from the marvellous Jen Kuroki – an LA lady who makes these one-of-a-kind pieces. If you want to know more about the magical Kuroki world check out her website  - www.jenkuroki.com. The faces are hilarious. They are so marv. I couldn’t edit them down. Feast your eyes on these beauties, Yolkers, and keep checking back here for more nonsense and delights.

Bud vases $50. Hanging Planters with succulents $78.

Whaaaat?!?!?

I love you! I love you!

Hiiiiiiiiiii!

400 Blows

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

I get so jealous of people’s creativity sometimes (sigh). The other day I was in my friend Helene Ige’s store Ige in West Hollywood and she had the most AMAZING balloon sculptures on the wall. After a little digging I found they were by a British woman named Susie MacMurray. She does amazing sculpture pieces out of fun everyday objects but the balloons are my favorite. I think it’s the perfect piece to have above your bed in earthquake-prone California. When I make my millions I’m buying a bunch.

I would sleep like a bear (fnah!) under this duvet

I’m not really a huge bedding freak. My sheets can be mismatched as long as they are clean and crispy (none of that soft high thread count for me thankyouverymuch). Occasionally, I see a duvet cover that makes me reconsider my position and these are they. It is no coincidence they also have animals on them since I love all of my furry friends. Of course, they’re even better because they’re Scandinavian by Danish company By Nord (golf claps). Don’t be surprised if these end up in Yolk.

Stuff I Love Just Because

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Perhaps I’m fantasizing about getting a whopping tax return (uh, not) but this coffee table by Autoban for De La Espada has me hooked. We sell this line at Yolk and all of it so, so beautiful. These shoes, on the other hand, are by LD Tuttle and I think they are splendiferous. Usually I think white shoes can look super cheese but these are just super. I can justify the price by wearing them with my cheap stovepipe Target jeans.
